Humming to himself Caius made his way down the beauty of Route 114, not looking for anything in particular just on the hunt for a few Pokemon. He was hopeful that he’d find big boys on this route to compliment those he already had but he wasn’t too concerned at the moment. Anything would probably do as long as they weren’t too crazy. [break][break]

He began with looking through the tall grass for Pokemon and people. You never know who you might find out here.

There was something in the tall grass, alright, but it wasn’t quite a Pokemon. From the brush, mere feet from Caius, popped a small, skinny girl, dirtied by nature with twigs poking out of her hair. Not that that seemed to bother her – instead, her eyes were set on the man, brimming with determination. “I’m looking for a small black fox!” she announced, already irritated if her tone was anything to go by. “He’s been running away from me all day, and chasing him got old about three hours ago! I know he’s here somewhere!” And with that, she disappeared into the grass again. The disturbed stalks that tracked her every movement were almost laughably easy to follow, though if he hadn’t known better, she could have easily been mistaken for a wild monster. She’d barely travelled a few feet before…

When he parted a patch of grass he wouldn’t find a large Pokemon, but... A kid? He raised a brow and tiled his head, “You’re not a Pokemon.” he didn’t have much time to respond as the small trainer mentioned looking for a Pokemon. Caius drew back from the grass and crossed his arms.

Two fingers cupped his chin and thought about it, “Nah little “buddy, I don’t think I’ve seen anything like that.” he tried to recall his day, but nothing about small black foxes. “But h-”before he could speak again they dissipated into the grass.

Caius stared at the patch of grass for a moment before parting it again, this time a dragon fly of all things floating out of the grass and over his head. The Vibrava didn’t go far before Caius released a Pokemon, his Incineroar.

“Flamethrower!” [break][break]

Just behind the dragon type flames caught up and eventually engulfed it. The fire raged and burned the Pokemon, first thing Caius did was throw a Pokeball, hoping the surprise attack worked.

Crawling around in the grass made it hard to notice when danger was approaching. Annie learned that the hard way – it wasn’t until Big Ol’ Manly Man Trainer commanded his monster that she jerked her head out, just in time to see a jet of flames char a bug Pokemon. “Hey, a little warning would be nice!” she called, disregarding that:
1) The attack was nowhere near her.
2) She was too distracted by the attack to notice another beast about to ambush her.
3) She was also too distracted to notice her ‘little black fox’ rushing to the rescue.
Said fox sprang from the grass and landed atop Annie’s head, much to her visible chagrin. Her look of surprise went unacknowledged by him, for the Zorua had already set his sights elsewhere. Specifically, at the Marowak mere feet away, armed and ready to strike. It wouldn’t get the chance. The fox’s eyes took on a blue glow, and its body a red one. The latter expanded from the beast’s body, rushing outwards to greet the would-be attacker with dark force. “Huh?” The girl whipped her head around (and the Zorua teetered as it attempted to stay on top) to see a Marowak knocked off it’s feet. In other words, a downed Pokemon ripe for the taking. “Alright! Looks like Trainer Annie’s secured another victory!” With those words, a Pokeball was thrown, and if she was lucky, a Pokemon was captured.

There was success, sudden success. He had caught the dragon fly without so much as a peep from it. A good catch if he said so himself, though it seemed the youngling he had bumped into has other impressions, “If I warned you that’d be no fun.” despite the distance he played up their concerns. [break][break]

The antics that followed the mini freakout made him confused. Did youngsters go around talking in third person now? That was kind of cool, “Well train Annie, what brings you out here? You seem a bit small to be training in these parts.” it sounded insulting but his concern was legitimate. There were big Pokemon in there parts, big Pokemon he wanted the last thing he wanted was to see a kid get bowled over by one of the giants of the route. Wasn’t a good look. [break][break]

“Are you out here with other trainers? Looking to maybe score some worthwhile Pokemon outside of well, whatever you have.”

Caius earned himself a stink eye for his little joke, but it wouldn’t last. Nobody had been hurt, and the old man’s unapologetic comment sounded a lot like something she would say. That meant that he was alright in her book, and by extension, Kit’s as well.

“Being small just means I can fit into more places than you can! Nothing wrong with that.” The Zorua rapidly nodded in agreement, though it was unclear whether he understood her or simply bobbed his head to every passionate statement she made. “It’s just me and my Pokemon today!” He nodded again, so probably the latter. “And most days. But that’s all we need! Buuuut it would be nice to add more to the family, so here we are!” She stood up and walked over to claim her prize – the Pokeball.

“Besides that, we’re just sightseeing. Haven’t been in Hoenn for too long, so we’re making our way through and getting stronger as we do. Just like you, I’m guessing. But with less fire.”

They had guts, that was for sure. Usually Caius would challenge someone that gave that kind of lip to him to a battle or maybe an arm wrestle but given that this someone was smaller than him he’d let it slide just this once. [break][break]

“Well, if you say you can handle yourself out here who am I to say anything otherwise.” he’d shrug and recall his Pokemon. “As for you getting as strong as me, well, I think you have a few dozens years get as big as me little guy.” he’d give the young man a thumbs up and turned his attention back to the brush. [break][break]

“What sort of Pokemon you out here looking for anyway? Small ones like your mop there? Marowack is alright but you’ll need real mass on your team if that little fox is your anchor.”

“That sounds like grandpa talk to me, but you don’t look that old.” She started to brush herself off, though that was quickly proving to be a futile effort. Even if her clothes hadn’t been soiled by the dirt and grass, her outfit was loose at best and poorly-fitting at worst. The Zorua moving to sit atop her head wasn’t doing her hair any favours, and neither was the twig poking out of it. Judging by her lack of concern, the mess was part of the girl’s daily life.

“That depends. Big guys, little guys, it’s not important. If they’re not strong yet, then I’ll make them strong, just like me.” She punctuated the last three words with a waggling finger, since he seemed to doubt her power. “The most important thing is that they look like they can abide by Camp Annie’s 5 Tenets!” Kit barked his approval to an impassioned statement, as he did every time she used that tone. “I’ll know what I’m looking for when I see it. Anyway, it’s no good for you to profile a Pokemon, especially not one beginning to me! Kit’s got more than a few tricks up his sleeve, and you won’t get to see them if you keep saying that he’s small fry.”

Caius put his hands on his sides and sighed, he had been hit by a sudden wave of fatigue for some reason. “Haha, well I like the enthusiasm. You keep telling yourself all of that and you’ll be knee high to… To…” he looked for something to compare the other trainer’s small stature to. In all of his gazing he’d see a shiftry in the brush swiftly pass them by. [break][break]

“That apple!” he’d point at an odd looking apple that was sitting on top of the branch instead of hanging off of it, “Weird, there’s only one though you's assume an apple tree would have many apples.”
